Networking
What is Latency?
The round-trip delay between a visitor and your server, measured in milliseconds.
Latency is how long a small packet takes to travel from a visitor to your server and back, measured in milliseconds. Visitors on fast Nigerian fibre to a well-connected Lagos or European datacentre typically see 10–100 ms, which feels instant; hundreds of milliseconds make sites feel sluggish even on fast connections. Latency is why server location and network quality matter, and it is a component of every speed test. You can measure your own connection on our speed test page.
