What is CNAME record?
A DNS alias that points one hostname to another, like shop.yourbusiness.com → shops.example.com.
A CNAME (canonical name) record creates an alias: instead of pointing a hostname at an IP address, it points it at another hostname whose A record does the real work. This is handy for connecting subdomains to third-party services — for example pointing shop.yourbusiness.com at a storefront platform — because the platform can change its IPs without you re-doing anything. A hostname with a CNAME should not have other records at the same time, which is the most common setup mistake.
